Annie

“…and the dark oil painting on the wall, well, I just made that up.”
– John Haines

This is an informal portrait of granddaughter Alexandria who decided at an early age that she wanted to be called Annie. And so she is. Annie is now 17 and gorgeous, but this painting is of her as she looked at age 4. It is based loosely on a photo I took of her at that time, but as you can see, I changed virtually all of the surroundings. My thought was to give the painting a Johannes Vermeer look, with the light streaming in through an unseen window to the left. The heavy curtain pulled back in the foreground is based fairly closely on one in a Vermeer painting. I used one of Esther’s flower pots as the model for the much larger urn beside the chair, and the dark oil painting on the wall, well, I just made that up.
